Summary
Chapter 5 opens with a major twist, that the real assassin isn’t the old man, but a 15 year old boy named Shuli. He communicates with Haiji through international sign language, and when Haiji compares him to Laiyi, Shuli takes offense. A fast and intense clash quickly shows how skilled Shuli is. During the fight, Haiji realizes that Shuli must have been trained by the legendary Grim Reaper, a feared Chinese assassin believed to be long dead. A short flashback reveals how Shuli ended up under the Grim Reaper’s wing. As a starving mute child living on the streets, he was taken in and trained in martial arts. But the Grim Reaper made him promise one thing, he must never take a human life. Back in the present, Shuli looks ready to break that promise. He removes the heavy weights strapped to his arms, which boosts his speed, and traps Haiji in a deadly chokehold. Haiji, however, had anticipated a close range attack beforehand, and he responds with sharp, precise strikes to Shuli’s neck that slip past his defense. That sends a wave of burning and freezing pain through his body. Just when it seems the fight is over, the chapter ends another reveal. Shuli, who is in major pain, suddenly talks despite everyone believing he was mute. It is revealed that he can actually talk and speak.
