Haiji's Long Day, Part 1 (ハイジの永い一日①, Haiji no nagai tsuitachi ①) is the twenty sixth chapter of the Under Doctor manga series, written and illustrated by Kyo Tanimoto. It was released on July 26, 2026.
Plot
The chapter begins with Haiji taking Shuli out for yakiniku as a reward for saving him during the snowy mountain incident. Chiwa joins them, and Haiji ends up paying for a large meal for both of them. After leaving the restaurant, they hear an explosion nearby and discover that a Chinese restaurant has been destroyed after a propane truck crashed into it. Haiji immediately enters the damaged building and finds dozens of injured people scattered throughout the restaurant. With ambulances still minutes away and the disaster medical team expected to take much longer, he decides to begin triage himself. Shuli helps by placing colored tape on the patients while Haiji rapidly sorts them according to the severity of their injuries. Despite the number of victims, he examines each person almost instantly and identifies twenty-two patients in critical condition. Once emergency workers arrive, Haiji instructs them to transport the most seriously injured patients first. Many of them need advanced treatment that cannot be provided at the scene, but nearby hospitals have limited space. Tokyo General Medical Center agrees to receive eight critical patients, while the remaining victims are divided among other hospitals. At the hospital, another doctor questions why one of the patients was marked as critical and attempts to lower his priority. Haiji explains that the man has burns deep inside his throat and is at risk of losing the ability to breathe. When the doctor demands proof, Haiji says that he saw the internal burns with his own eyes. The Chapter ends with the hospital director recognizing Haiji, ordering the staff to follow Haiji and promising to take responsibility for whatever happens.
