Scared (怖い, Kowai) is the twenty fifth chapter of the Under Doctor manga series, written and illustrated by Kyo Tanimoto. It was released on July 19, 2026.
Plot
The chapter begins with Shuli preparing to remove the second bullet from Haiji’s body while he guides him through the operation. Although, she is unsure of himself, Haiji tells him exactly where to cut. He also warns him not to use anesthesia because he is allergic to it, forcing him to go through the pain while remaining conscious. Shuli manages to locate the bullet, but blood suddenly begins pouring from the wound after she accidentally cuts Haiji’s intercostal artery. She panics at first, realizing that Haiji’s life is now in him hands. Haiji calmly reassures him and instructs him to clamp the artery. With his encouragement, Shuli regains his composure, stops the bleeding, removes the bullet and closes the wound. The experience helps him understand how frightening it is for doctors to carry responsibility for another person’s life, as well as the happiness that comes from successfully saving someone. Despite having just undergone surgery, Haiji gets up after noticing that one of the Hawkins 6 has been injured by a bullet. The man refuses treatment because he is a murderer and believes Haiji should leave him to die. Haiji tells him that judging his actions is not a doctor’s job and that he only cares about saving the patient in front of him. When the man’s younger siblings beg Haiji to save their brother, he agrees to treat him. The Chapter ends with the snow clearing the following day, allowing the police to arrest the Hawkins 6 and transport Haiji and the journalist to a hospital. Afterward, Shuli receives the bullet she removed from Haiji and keeps it.
