Ishiguro is humble, open-minded, and selfless. He prioritizes patients above anything else. When he is shot and bleeding out in the cargo, he tells Haiji to leave him and escape. [1]

He respects Haiji and becomes amazed with his ability. Haiji is also starstruck by Ishiguro, with him recognizing him as a famous expert in artificial cell research.
Background
Little of his background is known, however, what is known is that he has been practicing medicine for over 40 years.
At some point, he became the Director of Mikage at University Hospital of Tokyo.
